According to local lore, a woman riding one of the first excursion trains on the Milwaukee, Menomonee Falls and Western Railroad exclaimed "It's just like a bug following a grapevine!" The winding, twisting track followed the easiest grade, not the most direct line, because it was built mainly to serve the area's quarry trade. Now, the route is a popular biking and hiking trail that extends 12 miles through Menomonee Falls, Lannon and points west.
