History
Ohana was created based on founder Jocelyn Alt's years of experience working with expecting and new parents as a doula. Jocelyn found that many of her clients experience a great deal of stress and uncertainty during their pregnancy and that existing resources are inadequate. Fifteen minute OB appointments are too short or do not feel like the right setting to ask many of the questions parents have. Searching on the Internet is unreliable and often makes couples feel more scared rather than less. In addition, because people are increasingly living far from family and close friends, many couples feel isolated and do not have a cohort of peers with whom they can share experiences and gain support. Ohana was founded in Chicago in 2012 to fill these gaps. When Jocelyn moved back to her hometown of Seattle in 2014, she started the second branch of Ohana here.
