History
Jazz Night School, founded by Erik Hanson in Seattle in 2008, offering individual and group instruction in a supportive and positive environment for musicians of any age. The jazz ensemble was selected as the best way to foster individual and group skill development. Participants wanted to share what they learned with others in the community to expand awareness of jazz as a living art form, and community performances became an integral feature of the program. Jazz Night School grew steadily, adding a variety of ensembles and classes for all levels, and in 2011 our community elected to become a nonprofit organization. Jazz Night School became our area's largest jazz program for all ages in 2012, and we're proud of our historic student age range of 10 to 80. The school has created a community of individuals from throughout the Pacific Northwest involved in providing and receiving instruction and jazz performance for the community.
