Center For Family
HistoryDuring her early career a social worker repeatedly encountered folks navigating compounding stressors like lack of transportation, food insecurity, inaccessible resources (childcare, grocery stores, public transportation), Medicaid bias, and housing instability. She realized her clients were unable to recover because many of their challenges were due to systemic oppression leading to a constant state of emotional and mental distress. At the Center we realize that Black and Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC) and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBTQ) persons have the greatest need but are the least able or likely to access mental health care due to various intersecting oppressions. Envisioning a community of compassion, that responds effectively and respectfully to the needs of all members of the community, the Center for Family & Maternal Wellness was founded by Reia Chapman, LCSW on March 16, 2016.SpecialtiesOur culturally affirming therapists are available 6 days per week to help you navigate life challenges big and small. Center for family & Maternal Wellness is a private outpatient group practice serving the greater Charlotte area. Our mission is to reduce barriers to culturally affirmative mental health care by providing access to a broad range of mental health services regardless of age, class, gender, race, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status or any intersection of their identity. We believe that all people have the right to the best behavioral health services available, regardless of cultural or economic circumstances.
