The Rochester Police Department, headquartered in Rochester, N.Y., is staffed by uniformed and civilian professionals committed to reducing crime and violence in the community. Established in 1819, its law enforcement services include the protection of life and property, reduction of crime, resolution of conflict, and the identification and apprehension of criminal offenders and activities. Its traffic enforcement unit is responsible for traffic direction and control and proactive traffic enforcement on a citywide basis. Its investigations division is responsible for providing investigative service relating to homicides and all incidents of suspicious and unexplained deaths. The Bureau of Organizational Development and Administration is responsible for providing the administrative support services necessary for the effective operation of department, including its recruitment and training programs.
