The Nebraska Public Service Commission works to provide service regulation and general control of common carriers. It operates communication, recreational vehicle, and grain warehouse and housing departments. The commission has a motor carriers unit that regulates rates, routes and services carrier moving household goods and transporting passengers for hire. The Nebraska Public Service Commission maintains a transportation department that is responsible for equipment inspections and the compilation and filing of reports required by law. It supports a manufactured home program that protects the health and safety of owners of manufactured homes in accordance with the Federal Manufactured Home Construction and Safety Standards Act. The commission additionally administers a telephone assistance program that assists qualifying low-income individuals with obtaining and keeping telephone services by lowering monthly service and connection rates.
