HistoryCM City opened its first store in Statesboro in 1987 under the name Curtis Mathis. Specializing in televisions, the store expanded to carry a full line of home furnishings. After changing its name to CM City, the store also began to offer rent-to-own options on all of its merchandise. In 1996, Statesboro newcomer Mitchell Hayes began working at CM City as its store manager. After he became a partner in the business, CM City opened stores in Vidalia, Claxton, Sylvania, Metter, Swainsboro and Hazlehurst.
