The Town of Greenwood, Florida, established in 1824 and incorporated in 1927, is a historic town surrounded by large plantations and home to several pre-Civil War houses, including the Hayes House, the Erwin House, Great Oaks, and the Hayes-Long Mansion. With a rich history, Greenwood once boasted doctors, cotton gins, a peanut mill, a railroad, general stores, a drug store, and a livery stable, as well as a vibrant theatrical group in the 1880s.
