West Hartford Public Schools serves approximately 10,000 students in a system that ranks highly among Connecticut school districts. With a diverse population that includes speakers of about 70 languages, the district comprises 11 elementary schools, three middle schools and two high schools. It employs about 1,700 people and operates on a budget of about $125 million. In addition to its 16 traditional schools, the district operates continuing and summer education programs, the Early Learning Center at Whiting Lane School, the REACH alternative high school and the HANOC After-School Homework Center.
Administrative offices for the school system are located in Town Hall. The Superintendent of Schools is Dr. Karen L. List.
