Water Pollution Control, the town's waste water (sewage) treatment operation, is responsible for more than 70 miles of pipes, five pumping stations and the treatment facility on Drake Hill Road where physical and biological processes are used to remove harmful levels of organics, chemicals and other substances before the water is released into the Farmington River.
The facility also processes Granby's waste water, portions of Avon's and waste from local septic tanks. The department's budget comes from user revenue. Tours of the facility are conducted throughout the year for schools and environmental groups by appointment.
