Purchased from the Belknap Family in 1999, the Belknap Preserve is a 37-acre property of open woodlands owned by the Wilton Conservation Land Trust.
The property is marked by wetlands, rolling forests and open pastures and offers a number of features that remind visitors of its agricultural history. Its open fields distinguish it from most other Wilton parks, lush with tall grasses that are home to unique bird and insect species. The park also features a small stream that connects to Mayapple Brook and a man-made pond built in 1963 when the Belknap Family dammed one of the streams.
While on the trails, hikers may pass over a series of stonewalls that are the most striking and obvious evidence of the park's old farm properties.
