History
Yoga Mendocino, a nonprofit organization (or 501-3c), was formed in 2000 by a group of students and two local yoga teachers. Together they set out to establish a permanent yoga studio in the Ukiah area. A Board of Directors (BOD) was formed, by-laws were written, and ideas were tossed around among a group of supporters for more than a year. The group found a promising location on Mason Street. Funds were raised, plans were made, and by the summer of 2002, Yoga Mendocino had a place of its own; thus beginning more than a decade of activities introducing the whole community to new ways to care for the self and the body. Since its inception, Yoga Mendocino has reached out to a wide group of county residents who are interested in the health of the body and spirit. Yoga Mendocino sponsors weekly meditation evenings, day-long workshops taught by local teachers, and workshops featuring visiting teachers of both yoga and meditation. Special events include music, dance, and education.
