Started in 1950 by a group of parents of children with developmental disabilities, the Arc of Alameda aims to empower every individual with the knowledge, tools and support to achieve each life's potential by recognizing each person's needs and wants.
The Arc fulfills this mission through the following services: Adult Development Program - SCOPE, Alternative Ventures Program (AVP), Supported Employment Services, First Step Children's Center, Independent Living Services and Vocational Development Services.
As a non-profit organization, the Arc serves more than 600 individuals with ethnically diverse backgrounds in five different locations.
