SPIRITT Family Services began under the name Project INFO Community Services in 1972. It is a private, nonprofit organization that was developed for the prevention of increased drug abuse among the student population of the Whittier Union High School District. The agency employs nearly 100 individuals and operates five centers. Its services include group and individual counseling, education, intervention and treatment of alcohol and drug abuse, as well as child abuse, domestic violence and family preservation services. SPIRITT Family Services offers classes in family communication, parenting and anger management. The organization also provides after-school programs, which are available in English and Spanish. SPIRITT Family Services maintains a center in Whittier, Calif.
