The Santa Cruz Public Libraries is a city/county library system with library branches throughout Santa Cruz County in California. Established in 1917, the department provides library services to all residents of Santa Cruz, Scotts Valley and Capitola, Calif., and the county's unincorporated areas. It operates through a system of branch libraries stretching from La Selva Beach to Boulder Creek, Calif.; via an outreach program; through telephone reference services; and Internet access to a computer catalog and other electronic databases. Its collections are linked by an automation system, which tells where any system book or other item is located and whether it is available for checkout. Santa Cruz Public Libraries has system headquarters in Santa Cruz.
