The Lafayette Library and Learning Center is located in the heart of the city, at the corner of Mount Diablo Boulevard and First Street. The library is within walking distance of Lafayette Elementary, Stanley Middle School, senior housing, the Lafayette BART station and the community's more centralized downtown neighborhoods. The brand new facility boasts an expanded collection of books and audiovisual materials, 43 public computers, a Technology Lab, separate teen area, Homework Center, Community Meeting Room, Art & Science Discovery Center, more than 80 on-site parking spaces and public art spaces.
The Lafayette Library is home to the Glenn Seaborg Learning Consortium, a "first-ever" collaboration of some of the Bay Area's most prestigious educational and cultural organizations. Through the Consortium, a wealth of collaborative learning workshops, exhibits, lectures, films and discovery centers are offered. The library also offers free tutoring in all levels of math, physics, chemistry every Tuesday 6-8pm with UC Berkeley Grad students and professional tutors on hand to help kids crunch those numbers. If board strategy is your game, the library hosts a free, monthly open chess club for all ages, all abilities. You can get a lesson, give one, and maybe find yourself up against a Grand Master. To join in the fun, stop by on the third Saturday of the month from 4pm to 5pm.
