Established in 1851, the Colusa County Sheriff's Office is a law enforcement agency that protects residents lives, property and individual rights, as well as maintains peace and order. It maintains a records section that maintains and processes department reports, requests, firearm permits and registrations. The sheriff s office also operates a 90-bed jail that houses pretrial, inmates awaiting sentencing, and county- and state-sentenced prisoners. Located in Colusa, Calif., the Colusa County Sheriff's Office supports Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.), which is an international education program that seeks to prevent the usage of illegal drugs, gang activities and violent behavior. In addition, it maintains a citizens service unit and a narcotics task force.
