Founded in 1904, the Nellie Burge Community Center serves the social needs of citizens in the Bell Street and West End areas of Montgomery, Ala. It conducts educational programs for school dropout mothers. The center also operates a child development center for low-income families. Its other programs include an after-school enrichment program, Child and Adult Care Food Program, Family Literacy Program, and Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters. The Nellie Burge Community Center additionally provides emergency food assistance to women, children and their families. It organizes a summer literacy camp for instruction in math, science, social studies and reading. The center conducts various field trips.
