The State Patrol, established in 1939, promotes highway safety by providing law enforcement services for the citizens of Wisconsin. The division operates more than 15 safety and weight enforcement facilities and an academy that provides law enforcement training programs for federal, state and local law enforcement officers. It offers size and weight inspections, motor carrier safety assistance, ambulance and school bus inspections, crash reconstruction and mobile data communication services. The State Patrol provides aid to local law enforcement agencies through civil disturbance countermeasures, natural disaster recovery support, communication services and chemical testing services for drivers suspected of being under the influence of alcohol. The State Patrol maintains an office in Waukesha, Wis.
