One of the city's four community parks used by residents citywide, Wirth Park is named after the city's first mayor, Franklin Wirth. About 96 of its 145 acres are designated for park purposes, with the remaining area featuring wetlands, woodlands and water resources.
Located in the city's center, Wirth Park has major amenities including the Wirth Aquatic Center, the Brookfield Jaycees Skate Park and an outdoor ice skating and hockey rink. It counts more than 10,000 annual visitors.
Wirth Park also has three playgrounds, five ball diamonds, two baseball fields, three soccer fields, eight tennis courts (four are lighted), two sand volleyball courts, two sledding areas, nine picnic areas, two park shelters with restrooms, bike paths and trails connected to the city's Greenway Trail System.
