History
First constructed in the 60's, the UWM Planetarium has become a place for families and friends to come enjoy the stars. Shows are always made by our own production staff and allow for a unique experience not seen at many other planetariums!
Specialties
Experience the wonders of the cosmos and the beauty of the night sky in our awe-inspiring planetarium dome. Our live programs offer something for everyone: a fun night out, an inspiring field trip, a birthday party destination, and a venue to learn more about our place in the universe. You can choose to join us for a scheduled public event or book a program for a private group. Both types of events can be in-person or virtual. We offer affordable and entertaining shows, including Friday night shows, rooftop stargazing, and a number of special events throughout the year. We also book private groups for birthdays, schools, scouts, and more. The Planetarium is housed in the Department of Physics at UW-Milwaukee. The theatre is equipped with a Spitz A3P optomechanical projector that projects stars, planets, the Sun, and the Moon on the Planetarium's 30-foot dome. Four digital projectors and separate special projectors are also used for visual effects such a rotating Milky Way Galaxy and the Aurora Borealis. In addition, the Planetarium is equipped with RGB LED cove lights and constellation projectors.
