The flagpole and memorial can be visited at any time. Flag Facts: 70- by 140-foot flag is the world's largest free-flying American flag. Tallest flagpole in North America--nearly 100 feet taller than the Statue of Liberty. 400-foot flagpole weighs approximately 420,000 pounds. Over 500 gallons of paint cover the pole. 11-foot diameter at base tapers to 5 1/2-foot diameter at top. Three pendulum-style tuned mass dampers reduce movement and vibration. Designed to withstand a low temperature of -42 degrees Fahrenheit. The 9,800-square-foot flag, which weighs 340 pounds, is more than four times the size of the average U.S. home. Each star is nearly 3 feet across and each stripe is over 5 feet high. Acuity is proud to dedicate the Veterans memorial at the base to all who assure our freedom and to those that continue to serve. We owe our gratitude and thanks for their service and sacrifice. There are more than 750 inscribed pavers at the base of the pole that list the names of every Sheboygan County Veteran killed in the line of duty. A full list of names along with a map with the location of each can be found in a free handout at the base of the flagpole. The flag may be taken down temporarily during times of maintenance (please check our website) or severe weather. The flag will be lowered to half staff during official observances.
