The Northwest Regional Planning Commission (NWRPC) is an economic development district located in Spooner, Wis. The commission was founded in 1959 by local units of government of Northwest Wisconsin. It is one of the oldest planning commissions in Wisconsin and one of the first multicounty planning commissions in the United States. The Northwest Regional Planning Commission is a cooperative venture of the Ashland, Bayfield, Burnett, Douglas, Iron, Price, Rusk, Sawyer, Taylor and Washburn counties in Wisconsin and various tribal nations. The commission s professional services include the preparation of state and federal grant applications and the planning of economic development strategies. It also assists in the construction and management of economic development facilities and enterprise centers. The Northwest Regional Planning Commission develops various land use and roadway management plans. It specializes in community development and educating the public on regional projects and impacts.
