The headquarters of the Milwaukee County Parks Department is located in Wauwatosa on the County Grounds, formerly the home of a host of social service agencies devoted to the welfare of county citizens from cradle to grave. The Parks building used to be part of the former County Orphanage and is now a designated historic building. The department oversees some 144 parks and parkways encompassing more than 15,000 acres of developed parks and natural areas in Milwaukee County.
