Depot Barber Shop

Butch Mareno, the 83-year-old owner of Depot Barber Shop -- and one of the oldest barbers in the state of Wisconsin -- has been cutting hair in Waukesha for 66 years. Mareno, a character in his own right, specializes in haircuts, shampoos and shaves. Those he charges for, but says that the jokes, entertainment and verbal abuse are free. Discounts are available for seniors and Italians. The shop is housed in an old railway car and attached to the La Estation Restaurant on Williams Street, off Grand Avenue. The decor harkens back to years past: There's a 1915 cash register and photos of old-time stars, including Perry Como, one of Mareno's favorites.
