The Kenosha Police Department, founded in 1903, is a public agency that works towards enforcing laws and ordinances, safeguarding constitutional rights, and preserving peace, order and safety. It offers a variety of citizens services, such as firearms permits and release, accident reports, alarm permits and auto release. The department employs more than 180 full-time trained police officers. The Kenosha Police Department maintains a patrol division and detective bureau. In addition, it operates a Special Weapons and Tactics Team. The patrol division offers services for bike and motorcycle patrol and towing of unregistered vehicles. The department also maintains units for sex offenders and Internet crime complaints. Its detective bureau undertakes fraud, identity theft, street crimes, bomb disposal and polygraph operations.
