Founded in 1947, Group Health Cooperative is a consumer-governed nonprofit health care organization. It provides coverage and care to more than 500,000 people in Washington and Idaho. Group Health Cooperative offers a variety of health care plans that include deductible, coinsurance, Medicare supplement, defined physician-network, point-of-service and dental benefit. Its 70 percent of members receive care in Group Health Cooperative-owned medical facilities. Group Health Cooperative also maintains a network of more than 9,000 practitioners and approximately 40 hospitals. Its research arm, the Center for Health Studies, works with institutions, such as the University of Washington and the National Institutes of Health. Group Health Cooperative serves several employers, such as Boeing, Federated Department Stores, Lockheed Martin, Microsoft, Nordstrom and Wells Fargo & Company. It is headquartered in Seattle.
