Delta Sigma Theta Sorority was founded in 1913 by collegiate women at Howard University to create a sisterhood to promote academic excellence and assistance to those in need. The organization has more than 200,000 women with 900 chapters in the United States, England, Japan, Germany and the Republic of Korea. It is a public service organization that undertakes a variety of programs that focus on the areas of economic development, international awareness and involvement, physical and mental health, educational development, and political awareness and involvement. The organization offers a wide range of services, such as blood pressure screenings, financial planning, and political advocacy, public policy and legislation awareness programs. In addition, it organizes health fairs and self awareness programs. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority is located in Milwaukee, Wis.
