Founded in 1878, Milwaukee Public Library is a department operated by the government of the city of Milwaukee. Milwaukee Public Library is a member of the Milwaukee County Federated Library System. It features a collection of books and periodicals and provides links to search engines. The library maintains an art, music and recreation room that houses reference books on architecture, folklore, costumes, sports, theater, dance, film, radio and television. It operates a more than 14,000-square-foot of area that includes theater and puppet stage for children. The library maintains a federal depository and Milwaukee postcard, digital and genealogy collections. In addition, Milwaukee Public Library stocks a collection of historic photos and portraits.
