It is one of the largest veteran s service organizations in the United States, committed to mentoring and sponsorship of youth programs in various communities across America. The organization s baseball is an amateur athletic program, designed to educate youths on the importance of sportsmanship and develop the quality of citizenship. The American Legion s Heroes to Hometowns program is the only nationwide reintegration assistance service for wounded veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan. The organization s programs/services include flag advocacy, flag etiquette, scholarships, scouting, junior shooting sports, temporary financial assistance, troop support, national emergency fund and more.
