The section handles citizen complaints involving dust, fallout, odor problems and open burning. The department s hazardous waste section regulates air emissions from facilities that treat, store and dispose of solid and hazardous waste. In addition, the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection has a laboratory that analyzes filters from various sampling sites throughout the state to determine the amount of particulate matter in the air. The laboratory also performs a weekly analysis of precipitation samples for conductivity and acidity concentrations. The department is located in Charleston, W.Va.
