Founded in 1865, Fairmont State University enrolls more than 7,000 students. It operates college of liberal arts, college of science and technology school of business, school of education, school of fine arts and the school of nursing. It offers courses in various subjects, such as geography, psychology, sociology, English, criminal justice and history. It additionally offers foreign language programs in French and Spanish. Fairmont State University provides various scholarship and financial aid programs for the students. Its athletics activities offered by the University include football, basketball, cheerleading, soccer, volleyball and wrestling. It has more than 80 clubs and student organizations. Fairmont State University is accredited by the North Central Association and the Higher Learning Commission. It is located in Fairmont, W.Va.
