Attorney General
The Attorney General s Office, also known as AGO, serves more than 230 state agencies, boards, commissions, colleges and universities. Located in Tacoma, Wash., the office manages one of the largest public law offices in the state. It has a staff of over 1,200 employees. The Attorney General s Office is an independent constitutional office and legal counsel to the state government. The office also represents the state of Washington before the Supreme Court, the Court of Appeals and trial courts in various cases that involve the state s interest. In addition, it advises the governor, members of the legislature and other state officers on legal issues. The Attorney General s Office upholds the Consumer Protection Act, enforces laws against anti-competitive business practices and represents the public interest in utility matters.
