TVI is the parent company for Savers. Savers operate 200 Savers, Value Village and Village des Valeurs stores and employ more than 7,000 people in 25 states, 10 Canadian provinces and in Melbourne, Australia. The background and philosophy of Savers lies with the Salvation Army s thrift organization in the 1930s and 1940s. The concept is remaindered or surplus merchandise, and thrift. The first Savers was opened in San Francisco. The one store became a chain, and its headquarters moved north to the Seattle, Wash. area. Savers went international in 1980 when it opened its first Canadian store in Vancouver, B.C., called Value Village.
