Founded in 1987, the Department of Information Services is administered by the Washington State. The department provides technology leadership to government organizations throughout the state. It offers information technology services to educational institutions, tribal governments, nonprofit organizations, and other state and local agencies. The department also reviews and approves standards and common specifications for new and expanded telecommunication networks. The Department of Information Services manages more than 50,000 local telephone lines and serves over 150,000 individual users in nearly 500 public organizations through its SCAN and SCANPlus long-distance telecommunication solutions. In addition, it provides wide area network, network security, mainframe computing and enterprise data storage services.
