Spie, founded in 1955, is an international society for optics and photonics that works to advance light-based technologies. The society serves more than 188,000 constituents from over 130 countries. It organizes and sponsors nearly 25 major technical forums, exhibitions and educational programs in North America, Europe and Asia annually. Spie publishes the SPIE Digital Library, which contains approximately 280,000 research papers. The society also publishes print monographs, tutorial texts, field guides and reference books. It advances emerging technologies through interdisciplinary information exchange, continuing education, patent precedent, and career and professional growth. In addition, the society offers scholarship programs for students.
