The Seattle Mariners Baseball Club is the city s Major League Baseball franchise. The team, established in 1977, has won three division championships and made four postseason appearances (1995, 97, 2000, 2001). The Mariners played in the 59,084-capacity Kingdome from 1977-99. Seattle moved to the 47,116-seat Safeco Field in July 1999. The Mariners have had numerous all-stars, including outfielders Ken Griffey Jr. and Ichiro Suzuki, pitcher Randy Johnson, third baseman Edgar Martinez and shortstop Alex Rodriguez. The club s also had one Baseball Hall of Fame player - pitcher Gaylord Perry, who threw for Seattle from 1982-83. Nintendo has majority ownership of the Mariners. The organization has minor league affiliates in Everett and Tacoma, Wash., San Antonio, San Bernardino, Calif., Appleton, Wis., and Peoria, Ariz.
