History
The Pocock Foundation was created in 1984 by people who were passionate about the sport of rowing and the benefits it can provide. There were initially three goals: Building a state of the art community boathouse to serve as the home for Seattle athletes and rowing organizations. Supporting Elite athletes in training for international competition - including the Olympic games. Creating an Olympic-class, competitive venue and high-performance training center in western Washington.
Specialties
The Pocock Rowing Center is the premier rowing facility in the Northwest. A beautiful facility in an accessible location, the tradition-rich Pocock Rowing Center has something for everyone. From complete beginners to Olympians, the Pocock Rowing Center offers easy and comprehensive access to the act of rowing and the sport of crew for all skills, ages, and physical abilities. Our team of professional rowing coaches and strength-and-conditioning coaches is dedicated to helping athletes work to develop skills, find speed, and create the best opportunities for individual and team success through instructional, recreational and competitive rowing programs as well as opportunities for private lessons. In addition to structured teams and instructional classes, members of the Pocock Rowing Center have access to shared club singles, doubles and pairs and can row independently (as well as train in our fitness center), thus allowing even the busiest athlete the chance to find time to get on the water and to the gym for training and recreation. The Pocock Rowing Center is located in Seattle's Eastlake residential community along Portage Bay and is less than ten minutes from downtown Seattle and only a short distance from many Seattle neighborhoods, Shoreline, Mercer Island, and Bellevue.
