History
Elephant Car Wash on 4th Ave is the original Elephant Car Wash built in 1951. Started by Dean, Archie, and Eldon Anderson, 4th Ave was the first automatic car wash in Washington. The Anderson's invented hands-free machines, which cleaned cars safely and reliably, eclipsing the plastic-bristle brushes in use at that time. In 1956 Elephant Car Wash opened its 2nd location on Battery Street in downtown Seattle, home of the world-famous rotating elephant! In 1963 the location on Pacific Avenue in downtown Tacoma opened, cementing our reputation for exceptional, safe, hands-free car washing throughout the Puget Sound. In 1982 the Haney Family purchased Elephant Car Wash, and ushered the Elephant's evolution from brushes to high-pressure water cleaning, soft-cloth wraps, and automatic touchless car washes.
