National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration offers the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Diving Program administered by the United States Department of Commerce, and is headquartered at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Diving Center in Seattle. The diving program trains and certifies scientists, engineers and technicians to perform a variety of tasks carried out underwater. In addition, various government agencies also participate in the administration s diver training courses. The diving center in Seattle functions as the administrative support center and primary diver training facility of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Diving Program. Opened in 1989, the center includes offices, a modern classroom with state-of-the-art audiovisual capabilities, dive equipment repair and storage areas, a training tank, and three fully-functional hyperbaric chambers.
