Martingale & Company began in 1976 out of the home of founders, Dan and Nancy Martin. During the first 20 years of its existence, the company earned and maintained its reputation for excellence, publishing quilting books under the leading brand name, That Patchwork Place. Then, in 1996, the company broadened its scope and published in other areas as well. In addition to quilting, Martingale now publishes books on several more crafts, including a highly successful line of knitting and crochet books. The company has developed novelty lights, coasters and other gift items as well. Over the years, the business has evolved into an industry-leading publishing house with a host of best-selling and award-winning books written by some of America's most loved designers. Today, Martingale & Company has sold over 17 million books! The company has prided itself working with the independent shop owners, forming partnerships and special events to help these independent business people succeed. The Super Stitcher program is one recent example that is designed to help shop owners sell more books, more fabric, more often' by offering free product to consumers who meet certain purchase criteria. Several years ago, to ensure the continuation of the thriving and dynamic business they founded, the Martins chose to sell the company to their employees. In 2007, the company became 100% employee owned.
