One of Lake Washington School District's "Choice" schools, open to students grades 6-9 across the district, Environmental and Adventure School offers a nature-based curriculum focusing on the interdependence of people and the environment. Education is outdoors focused, with regular field trips and stewardship projects. Core subjects are language arts, social studies, science, math, Spanish, art, fitness and health, with a focus on research, writing, technology and oral presentations.
Results of standard state tests in 2008-09 found students scoring well above state and district averages in virtually every category. Environmental School is housed in one building at Finn Hill Junior High, and students have full access to all facilities. New classrooms will be provided for the Environmental School with the completion of a major modernization project at Finn Hill in the fall of 2011.
