Founded in 1891, the Mount Vernon Fire Department provides fire, rescue, medical and hazardous material emergency services. It has fire stations staffed with firefighters and emergency medical technicians. The department offers fire and life safety education services for public school systems, community businesses, professional associations and assisted living centers. The Mount Vernon Fire Department works with planning and building departments. It also provides building design, construction, access and egress standard, as well as hydrant and water supply location and maintenance services.
