History
Volunteers have been supporting the Bellevue Library with time, influence and contributions since its inception in 1925. The Bellevue Woman's Club with President Adelaide Belote contributed a start-up supply of boxed books and staffed the community's first library. In the 1940's, King County developed a library system and Marguerite Groves assumed the position of librarian. By 1949, the Bellevue branch of the King County Library System was located in one room of the Bellevue Boys and Girls Club at 100th Ave NE. In June 1957, the Overlake Friends of the Library incorporated and elected Mrs. Edward Wells as President. Individual dues were one dollar. The new organization's immediate objective was to help the community get a new library which was then located on the lower floor of the old Washington State Bank and had 8,000 books to circulate. Their long-term objective was to promote a bond campaign for the construction of a new library which finally opened in 1966 at 116th and Main
