Alaska Airlines provides passenger and cargo service to nearly 40 cities in Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Chicago, California, Nevada, Arizona, British Columbia and five destinations in Mexico. Alaska Airlines was founded in 1932 when Mac McGee started flying his three-seat Stinson plane between Anchorage and Bristol Bay, Alaska. A merger with Star Air Service in 1934 created the largest airline in Alaska, and number of mergers with companies, such as Alaska Coastal-Ellis and Cordova Airlines in the 1960s expanded the company further. Alaska Airlines now carries more than 12 million passengers per year and has major hubs in Anchorage, Alaska, Seattle, Portland, Ore., and Los Angeles. The Alaska Airlines fleet of 102 Boeing 737s and Bombardier jets is one of the youngest among all major airlines, and its reputation for outstanding service consistently earns best U.S. airline recognition from the Travel + Leisure and Cond Nast Traveler magazines. Alaska Airlines is based in Seattle.
