History
During WW2 - The United States Marine Corps allotted for an enlisted MOS (Military Occupational Specialty) of 296 - an Artist. The primary purpose of the job was unique among jobs and the services that managed them; MOS 296 was created for the purpose of raising morale.
Specialties
The 296 Project is a web based non-profit organization funded by monetary and in-kind donations, as well as governmental and organizational grants. We exist on the surface, to highlight the incredible artistry of our combat veterans however our primary mission is to encourage art as a healthy outlet for veterans suffering with the painful after effects of war and to be a clearinghouse for resources that can serve our veterans' therapeutic needs.
