Family Preservation Services of Virginia is a division of the Providence Service Corporation, a network of providers that includes more than 37,000 clients served from approximately 205 locations in more than 30 states. The Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse Services licenses FPS of Virginia. It is one of the largest private providers of community-based services for children and families in Virginia. Through local, state and federal funds, the organization provides a continuum of home-, community- and school-based programs, such as in-home counseling, substance abuse services, group counseling, school-based mental health, day treatment, adolescent sex offender services, therapeutic mentoring and therapeutic foster care. Its Virtual Residential Program is a service designed to provide families, schools and communities with a diversion alternative to unnecessary out-of-home placements and to expedite successful step-down of youth following residential or psychiatric placements.
