Mission and Outreach Olivet participates in various outreach programs. Financially, we have a special collection the third Sunday of each month, with the proceeds going to a pre-designated charity. We support the efforts of the Episcopal Relief and Development, as they work in countries devastated by natural disasters, such as Chile. We also volunteer at the local service organization, Koinonia. Koinonia, established in the early 1960's, is a Christian non-profit human services organization, serving individuals and families in the communities of Franconia, East Springfield, Newington, and Kingstowne. Their mission is to give hope and help with compassion and care to individuals and families in our local community who are going through extenuating circumstances, and are in need of emergency assistance. Since September 3, 2008, Olivet parishioners volunteer at Koinonia the 1st and 3rd Wednesday evenings of each month. Between the hours of 6 and 8: 30 pm on Wednesdays, Olivet volunteers serve by accepting donations and meeting with clients, helping to fill their clothing and food requests. Olivet extends the communion table each week to our homebound parishioners and folks at Greenspring. The visitation teams are looking for others to join in this ministry as servers. Please contact Dan Wilmoth if you are interested in this ministry. We have an on-going service project collecting used crutches and walkers to send to Manta, Ecuador. Please contact Dan Wilmoth if you have items to donate.
