Society of Chemical Manufacturers & Affiliates
The Synthetic Organic Chemical Manufacturers Association has served the batch, custom and specialty chemical industry since its inception in 1921. The association promotes high industry standards, builds public awareness and works with government agencies to develop and improve the industry. It serves as the voice of a membership that operates more than 2,000 manufacturing sites and employs in excess of 100,000 workers. SOCMA members encompass industry segments that range from small specialty producers to large multinational corporations and manufacture nearly 50,000 products valued at $60 billion annually. The association supports the industry by developing programs that maximize commercial and networking opportunities, increase public confidence and influence the passage of rational laws and regulations. It founded Informex, a global marketplace for networking and doing business in the specialty, batch and custom chemical manufacturing industry. SOCMA also introduced ChemStewards, the first environmental, health, safety and security program designed exclusively for the industry. The association is directed by a board of governors and has a location in Washington, D.C.
