Roanoke Parks and Recreation department looks after the annual maintenance and support of more than 70 parks and plazas. Located in Roanoke, Va., the department also maintains more than 85 flower beds, 400 hanging baskets, 70 aquatic plants and over nine water gardens. It provides snow removal facilities for southern Virginia, and supports more than 75 city and community events. The recreation division offers programs for more than 200,000 citizens every year, including management of the Addison, Breckinridge, Jackson and Woodrow Wilson fitness facilities, adult athletic programs, and operation of Olympic-size outdoor swimming pools. The department s youth services include caring adults, safe places, healthy start, marketable skills, and opportunities to serve. Additionally, it organizes various social events, such as 50-plus, fitness and wellness, great outdoors, camps, personal enrichment, and stargazing.
